The hum of the earth

Have you ever heard a hum that no-one else could hear?

Scientists last month have confirmed the cause of a strange humming noise that emanates from the Earth. It is caused by the pressure of ocean waves on the seafloor which generate seismic waves that cause the earth to oscillate. Generating a hum that is only audible for some people at certain locations and times, sometimes driving them to distraction. It is considered to be the source of the ‘Bristol hum’ that was reported in the news in the late 1970s and the hum that people living on the south coast of England have complained of in April.

At last people can know the source of the hum that they have been hearing!

The Bible has something to say about hearing. God said in the Book of Isaiah: “Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant…” (Isaiah 55:3, ESV).

There is something that the whole of creation wants us to hear. It is not the hum of the earth, but the Word of God speaking to us. God is calling us into a relationship with him. We are told in the book of revelation: “Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches”. (Revelations 2:7 MSG).

Hear the Word of God.
